It's Not Just About Looking Good
I hate to admit this, but yesterday, I watched.... Oprah.
What can I say? My wife saves it on Tivo, and once in a while there happens to be a topic I'm interested in that doesn't paint all men as the devil's spawn.
Anyway, the show was dedicated to things you can do to look younger and reduce your risk of cancer. There was a doctor on who is the author of a book discussing how to get to know and treat your body better. Sorry, the title escapes me. He actually had real examples of lungs, kidneys and large intestine: One set from a person who died healthy (presumably from some accident) and another from someone who had lived an unhealthy lifestyle as far as food, drink, and smoking.
Lemme tell ya, the differences in how these organs look was astounding and very eye-opening.
Bottom line is: Eating the right foods and working out are not just about looking good... really, that's just a bonus. The real benefit comes from good health, strength, and the reduced risk of cancer.
I may market my book as losing the last 10 pounds of fat in order to look really great, but my ulterior motive is to get people healthy. Much of what the Doc described on the program is what I recommend in my book, albeit without the medical references but with a common sense and sustainable approach.
That is exactly my story. My wife stored the show and we watched them talk about how your poop should look. The animations were great, but seeing the organs was pretty cool. And now I know what diverticulitus is and why I should avoid it.
Yeah, it was a bit of a "squirmer" but extremely educational.
