Making Choices
Today I didn't track what I ate because even when I'm trying to reach a body fat percentage goal I take Sundays off. It's important to have a day where you cut yourself some slack... if you try to be your own drill sargeant 7 days a week you'll doom yourself to failure in my opinion.
Anyway... I did want to make a note here about making conscious decisions where food is concerned. I've selected Monday mornings as my weekly progress check, so tomorrow I'll be measuring my waistline, weight, and body fat percentage. Having my "free day" the day before measuring is one way to keep myself from going hog wild and wolfing down 5,000 calories worth of junk food.
I was feeling a bit hungry around 7:30 PM, which is my cutoff for eating for the day and a part of my brain was whispering "chips and salsa".... you want "chips and salsa". It was the end of a day where I had already indulged somewhat and although it took some effort, I opted for a large apple and a glass of water instead.
The apple was big enough to give me a feeling of satisfaction, especially combined with a 12 oz glass of water. And at the end of the day I feel better about having made that choice over my first impulse.
Lesson: Stop and think about the consequences before you mindlessly grab whatever comes to mind for a snack.
