Transitioning from counting calories to instinctive eating

This is the first day in seven weeks that I'm not documenting what I eat on a "non-free" day, and it feels wierd. I'm so used to logging every single thing I eat and drink (except for water) and there's a feeling of trepidation about what I eat and how much now that I'm "winging it".

Tomorrow I post my final results but I will continue to take weekly measurements to make sure I'm still on track as far as maintenance. If I start to see fat gain I'll know that my estimates of what I'm eating are too generous.

Of course I'll continue to use my prior methods to determine what to eat and how much, it's just that now everything will be estimated instead of hard numbers. It's really making me think hard about whether I'm really hungry or just in the mood to snack, and that's actually a really good thing. Most of us creep up in weight because we don't give any thought to what we eat.

To mangle a famous quote: The price of maintaining low body fat is eternal vigilance.
